2014 Highlight Concerts In Vegas

The Biggest Events Beyond The Indie Scenes

-by a Las Vegas Music Fan

We tend to focus primarily on the indie music scene in downtown Las Vegas, and the acts that keep the city concert scene alive outside of the gigantic casinos and major concert venues. That said, however, the major performances that captivate enormous audiences at these venues are undeniably a major part of the Vegas culture, and so it’s always worth taking a look early in a new year at the big shows that will be coming to Vegas. So here are some of the big show highlights scheduled for 2014.

Miley Cyrus

We can all roll our eyes over Miley as much as we want, but the fact remains that she’s currently one of the most popular pop artists on the planet. She’s due at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on March 1 for what promises to be a sellout show, and arguably one of the biggest spectacles of 2014 in Vegas, at least in terms of traveling shows.

Flogging Molly

With so many generic pop stars at the forefront of the musical universe (and therefore the major concert venue performance lists) these days, Flogging Molly is a refreshing change of pace set for a Vegas show on March 15 at the Cosmopolitan. This is a particularly interesting event, as Flogging Molly’s upbeat, punk-infused brand of Irish rock clashes somewhat noticeably with the elegance of the Cosmopolitan. In fact, this is a show even the indie fans can get excited about.

Elton John

Elton John is one of the more remarkable performers in the world in that his shows haven’t diminished in the least with his age. Sir Elton is due for a few performances at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in late March and early April, and remains one of the biggest draws in town whenever he passes through.

Lorde

There’s something that seems a bit off about Lorde performing in Las Vegas, or at least doing so at the Cosmopolitan. Fresh off a Grammy win for “best song” for her track “Royals,” which essentially mocks the glamorous lifestyle held up in so many other popular songs and in celebrity culture in general, Lorde is bringing her act to one of the glitziest, most over-the-top places in the entire world. No one’s calling Lorde a hypocrite – she’s a performer, and she’ll take her opportunities to perform – but a screaming crowd of Vegas-goers singing along to the likes of “Royals” and “Team” should be somewhat amusing.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is the biggest show in town anywhere she goes, but her “ARTPOP Ball” tour should be particularly exciting when she hits the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on July 19. Not only does Gaga’s whole persona match naturally with Vegas, but arguably her most famous song, “Poker Face,” was even featured on a recent list drawn up by the partypoker online casino of the 10 best gambling songs ever written! Whether you agree with this assertion or not, the idea of one of the biggest stars in the world singing about her poker face in Las Vegas certainly makes sense as a major draw.

Bruno Mars

Perhaps at the pinnacle of his stardom following a rather spectacular Super Bowl performance, Bruno Mars will take his dance moves, unique hair, and upbeat music to the Boulevard Pool at the Cosmopolitan on August 22. August, in fact, is loaded with major events, including Lil Wayne, Justin Timberlake, and Britney Spears, but Bruno Mars is now on an even plain with the rest of them.

In the end, these are just a few highlights of an extremely busy concert and live performance slate at the major arenas and venues in Las Vegas. Zoovila has the full list, at least as it stands now, for those who want a closer look. But if you’re looking toward the major venues of Vegas, these are a few 2014 acts to remember.
